Twists and Dragonflies

First Game of Thrones Style Day! Today, I was inspired by one of Cersei's more basic hairstyles:  two rope braids pulled back to meet in a ponytail at the back.  I don't have any of those hidden elastics, so I just pinned the rope braids back with bobby pins.  This is a great site to use as a reference.

Game of Thrones--Episode 1

I'm so excited for tonight.  I will be watching the premier tonight at 9:00pm EST and making it even more fun by using something that my sister introduced me to back when Season 2 of True Blood was airing:  Bingo Cards.

Season 3 is Coming...

Photography Walk: DJ Wilcox

If you are looking for a new place to hike in Ft. Pierce, you might not be familiar with this nature trail:  DJ Wilcox Natural Area on Old Dixie Highway.  The hike takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour (depending on if you take the full trail--2.3 miles--or the half trail).  The hike begins with an alligator pond (with at least one alligator in it) and contains many Florida native plants and animals.

Out with the Old...Installing the New

Continuing the spirit of home improvement, we recently replaced the ceiling fan in my bedroom.  The fan was almost as old as I am and the chain allowing me to turn the light off and on had broken at the source (not fun for sleeping in hot Florida...I had to unscrew the bulb every night if I wanted to fan).  It had to go, and it's replacement:  Hunter 52" Ceiling Fan (Brushed Nickel with Cherry/Maple Blade)

My New Babies

I've lived in the South for my whole life and I'm just now getting a pair of cowboy boots.  Well, better late than never!  These lovely came from John's Feed & Western Supply on Orange Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL.  They don't have a website, they sort of have a Facebook, but they definitely have a fun store with affordable boots.

It begins...

I'm currently creating a new CSS style sheet and a Template for the new site.  Exciting stuff and a lot of work.  I'll try to have some layout sketches uploaded for tomorrow and I have a few costumes that I'll be working on this weekend.

After I go to a Fur Ball.

P.S.  I'm really going to try to stop posting so many site update posts soon.  Promise.

Fringed Denim Skirt

I recently bought a short denim skirt from Goodwill and decided that it was a little too short. Solution: add some fringe. And seeing as I needed it for a cowgirl-esque costume, I couldn't think of anything better than white eyelet.

Where Did I Go?

What have I been doing?  I'm looking into moving the blog to its own domain.  But to do this I would have to change the name seeing as candidlykate.com is already taken.  Possible names are sunblossomkate.com or alittlebitofkate.com.  I would love suggestions.

March Overview

I'm a big fan of March.  Starts out with a family birthday, middle is St. Patty's Day (by the way, I'm Irish), and it is the beginning of Spring.  And this year it ends with Easter, one of my favorite food holidays.  So, I hope to make some fun projects and even more delicious meals this month.

Also, this month I will be guest-blogging on Treasures of Fort Pierce.  Check out some of the great businesses in the area or read about interesting people such as this guy.

Goal of the Month: Still working on promotion.

February Recap

Another month down.  I'm still working out what I want this blog to be about, so there were a few changes this month.  The Book Club has been taken off;  it might show back up if I get more permanent viewers.  Also, I'm combining my artist blog into this one.  There will probably be more changes to come.

Oscar Style--Love That Dress

So, who didn't watch the Oscars last night? As a huge fan of musicals, I was bouncing in my seat through the whole thing!

More Changes?

You guys might have noticed that I didn't post anything yesterday and that the last two posts haven't been very content oriented.  This is because I am setting up for teaching Art Classes at both the Treasure Coast Art Association and Art Mundo, I've been volunteering for Treasures in Town (an Arts, Antiques, and Authors event that happens every 4th Saturday--this weekend--in Downtown Ft. Pierce), as well as some other areas of interest.  Busy schedule.  I'm going to try to keep making a post a day (M-F), but if I miss a day you should still find a new 365 sketch for that day.

I will be continuing to integrate Sunblossom Studio blog with this one and if any of you are interested in video games, I have started working on a whenever-I-feel-like-it blog, gamerkate.  Why?  I like games.

Blog Changes

So, I'm going to be working on a few things for the next few days.  A lot of changes.  Hopefully, for the better.  I'm always interested in your input if you have some ideas to making this blog more interesting.
  1. Getting rid of the Book Club.  No one seems interested in it.
  2. Combining Sunblossom Studio (artist's blog) into this blog.  At this point in time, I'm really just posting my 365 project on it.
In summary, you are going to start seeing a drawing/graphic a day and I'll stop harping about books.  I might still write a review after reading a good book though...or a movie/TV show.

DIY Valentine's Day Jewelry

With Valentine's Day coming up, I thought I should get some Valentine's Day themed posts out there, so here is my first little journey into jewelry making.  These were made with materials that were already in my studio, so the gauge of wire is a little off and the beads are generic and boring.  But it is a start.

10 Things to do without Internet

Some of you might have noticed that I was gone for quite a few days.  This was because of the Uverse outage fiasco.  Who knows what happened, but either way I was without Internet and TV for a number of days.  That's fun.  Here are a few things you can do when you find yourself without Angry Birds, Email, and Pinterest.

DIY--Kitchen Faucet Installation

My mom picked up a new faucet set for the kitchen sink and gave me to opportunity to see if I had the skills need to be a plumber!  Not knowing anything about taking out and installing a faucet I looked to google and found a great youtube video that made it almost easy.  I say almost, because I still had to hunt for the right tools in the garage and do the manual labor part.

Don't Sweat It

So I did something this week that I never thought I would do...I joined a gym!  One day of exercising down and it hasn't scared me away yet.

Planet Fitness might not have been my first choice for gym (sadly it has no yoga, tai chi, or similar classes), but the deal was just too good to pass up:  $99 for 15 months.  This deal can be found at some Sam's Clubs (I found it in Vero Beach, FL).

I expect good things from this "no judgement" gym.  And I got a free T-shirt!

Anything Can Happen Thursday

When I started planning my blog, I went through each day of the week to give it a theme in hopes that it would focus my content and help me with planning each day.

I came up with this these themes:
  • Monday:  Style/Organization
  • Tuesday:  Travel
  • Wednesday:  Recipe
  • Thursday:  Anything Can Happen
  • Friday:  Craft/DIY
Not every week sticks to this plan.  If there is a holiday or it is the beginning or ending of the month, then I tend to deviate.  But Thursday are always my favorite, because I gave myself permission to do whatever I wanted...a free ticket to do something different and challenge myself.

So if you're in a rut, then make an Anything Can Happen Day (Sheldon will not yell at you if it is not the 3rd Thursday of the month) and do something fun.

And please notice my shameless pug of The Big Bang Theory.  This show is sitcom gold.
